About Us

GAPA was first set up in 1973 by the President of the Rotary Club Chief Inspector Sempers and representatives from the National Playing Fields Assoc. Round Table and Social Services. 

GAPA ran its first Holiday Play Project in August 1974 and was registered with the Charity Commission in May 1975. The adventure playground has been developed over the years to become a valued service for children and families.  GAPA operates as a Company Limited by Guarantee and is a Registered Charity, the company was first registered in 2007 and the original charity was transferred to GAPA Ltd in 2011.

The aims and objectives of GAPA are as follows:

 

  • To relieve young people and their families resident in Gainsborough and the surrounding area who are in need, by providing services or facilities calculated to relieve the needs of such persons.

 

  • To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Gainsborough and the surrounding area the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.

 

  • To develop the capacity and skills of the members of the socially and economically disadvantaged community of Gainsborough and the surrounding area in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society.'

Lizzie has been coming to GAPA since she was a little girl. So its lovely to have her as part of the team. Making children happy and giggle to one of the best sounds in the world!

Claire has just recently started her GAPA journey whilst undertaking a playwork qualification outside of working here at GAPA. We are pleased to have her on as part of the team. 

Directors and Trustees

GAPA has Trustees and Directors that are responsible within Charity Commission and Companies House Law for the control of the management and administration of GAPA.  GAPA has a company manager that works with the Trustees to provide a valued, cost effective, fully compliant and responsive service.
